Barn door hardware – If you have a freeboard and you want to build a barn style door for the shed, start by visiting your local lumber store. You can probably find everything you need, the hips of your mind. Find out the hinges of most home improvement centers. Therefore, building a barn door is a great beginner DIY project for the average homeowner.


Measure the width of the door at the top and bottom of the door opening. Measure the height of the door opening. This gives you the necessary measurements for your barn door hardware. Share your door opening width with an integer giving you an integer. For example, if your doorway is 36 inches, choose boards that measure 3 inches in width. This means you will need 12 boards to build the door. You can also choose six 6-inch boards or three 12-inch discs. Do not use discs that will require you to cut down the length of the board if you do not absolutely have to.

Cut the slices to the required length you received in step 1 with a saw. Cut three 1-by-4 inch boards to the width needed for the barn door hardware. Place the door length boards side down and butt them all side by side. Place 4-inch discs over the back of the vertical boards. Place a board in the middle of the vertical boards, place the other about 10 inches from the top and the third about 10 inches from the bottom. Attach the vertical boards to each of the three horizontal boards with ¼ inch wood screws and a screwdriver or drill.

Turn the door and place the door on the horizontal boards. Place the door hinge on the door and straighten them so that they run over the horizontal boards fastened to the back of the door. Attach hinges to the door with the supplied screws with hinges. Hang the door in the opening and then attach the hinges to the face of the shelf with the supplied screws and a screwdriver or drill. Close the door and place the other side of the door latch on the front of the door opening. Secure the door latch to cover using the supplied screws and a screwdriver or drill.
